BRIEF HISTORICAL NOTE

 

 

 

The Havanan was the dog of the colonial aristocracy until beginnings of century XX, when the North American intervention imposes its fashions, being replaced by the Chihuahua, the Pomerania or the Pequinés, happening to be the favorite toy of the Cuban family that, of almost unconscious way, contributed to maintain lives the race.


During century XX an ample taste by the young of dogs in Cuba already begins, are made the first canine exhibitions in the island, where concerned races prevail mainly, single some criadores are dedicated to the Havanan Bichón. With the triumph of the revolution in 1959, the young of dogs undergoes a hard blow, since it happens to be a sign of the bourgeois mentality, nonagreed with the popular principles of the new changes. The economic reconstruction causes that people forget her dogs, but the race extends from States United towards Europe, starting off of a reduced number of emigrated units, mainly Sweden, Finland, Holland and Germany.
Meanwhile in Cuba, at the beginning of the eighty it begins to be appraised to appear again of the liking and the first clubs of race are based. Even so the Havanan Bichón remained submerged in the forgetfulness, distant of the recognition of the great public, even though who the Cinológica Federation the International (the ICF) had approved a standard for the race from 1963.
In 1987 the Cinológica Federation of Cuba is created again, entering like associated member of the ICF, is indeed in that year when the patrimony of the Havanan Bichón to Cuba retires to him, reason why today appears in the most technical Literature like original of the Western Mediterranean. It is here when there is a conscience taking and the lovers of the race meet, after a careful search, find to almost all the Bichones Havanan who were in the country and begin to work with them in the rescue of the race. On 1991 the Cuban Club of the Havanan Bichón is based that makes workings of selection and improvement of the race, counting already on several Cuban champions, first, triunfador Puppy of Expocanina 93.
